4K Program

Sonshine Learning Center

Sonshine Learning Center is a community partner site with the New Richmond 4K Program!  
 Our class times for 2020-2021 are
 7:50 am- 11 am or 11:40 am - 2:50 pm 
Monday through Thursday (and some Fridays- please see the district 4K calendar). 

*Transportation is also offered district wide beginning in the 2018-2019 school year.*

Our class size is just thirteen children to one teacher, in a play and evidence-based classroom featuring learning areas in science, math, writing, sensory, creative expression, art, snack, blocks and building, music, dramatic play, listening, and library. Students also have the opportunity to use and manipulate iPads, interactive boards, and hand-held application technology, as well as experience many diverse in-house field trips and 4K family programs. Our 4K and child care students have multiple opportunities to serve our New Richmond community, through programs, activities, and service projects.
*Assessments and scheduled main curriculum are the same across the New Richmond School District 4K sites*
Sonshine features an 8 acre campus including nature path, a sledding/ kite flying hill, vast grassy areas, a large remodeled, accessible playground, and also features outdoor classroom environments, such as outdoor art, basketball and bike track, science, dramatic play, and music centers

Our 4K and Sonshine Learning Center teachers are trained in early childhood processes, techniques, and methods to truly enhance brain development, growth, and learning activities according to research and evidence based practices
*S.M.A.R.T. curriculum program
*occupational and environmental teaching, classroom management, and regulation strategies
* alignment with the Wisconsin Model Early Learning Standards for children ages 0-6, in addition to the state teaching standards for 4K
*the CSEFEL Pyramid Model (as one of a few state of Wisconsin, child care, center-wide Implementation Sites)
*the state of Wisconsin Youngstar program/guidelines as a FOUR STAR facility
*Early Childhood Environmental Rating Scales 

All of these strategies work together to provide the highest quality, research-based, academic, social, and emotional environment for your child. 
Our 4K teachers continue to be Allison Firestone and Kayla Grender.
Our wrap around teacher, Kathy Gaffer, is also a licensed 4K educator; she works closely with Mrs. Firestone and Mrs. Grender to meet the educational, social, emotional, Sonshine, and district goals of our 4K students.

Sonshine 4K School Supply List 

4- Glue Sticks

    1-Bottle 4oz. Washable School Glue

1-Wide-rule spiral notebook with child’s name in upper right hand corner

1- Package of Colored Construction Paper

1-Tray Watercolor Paints

1-Package of fat markers

1-Package of Crayons

1- 1.5 Inch Binder with child’s name in upper right hand corner (any Color)

1- Package of plastic sheet protectors

1-Container of Clorox Disinfecting Wipes

   1-4 Pack of Dry Erase Markers

1- Backpack labeled with child’s name

   1-Bottle of Hand Soap


One complete change of clothes (including socks and underwear) in a large zip lock bag (to be kept in child’s backpack

Those items that we have not asked you to label with your child’s name will be shared items (ie: Crayons, Markers, etc.)
